Why this route can work well
Shanghai is a major international arrival city, so the first stay can include recovery time before the journey moves towards Huangshan. Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Huangshan form a comparatively concentrated East China route, which can reduce extra domestic flights and repeated long-distance transfers.

Move east to west—or reverse it for departure
The final direction depends on international flights, confirmed high-speed rail schedules, hotel plans, and how much time the traveler wants on Yellow Mountain.
Shanghai
Arrive, recover, and keep the first part of the journey simple. The length can be adjusted to flight time and previous travel in China.
Hangzhou
Travel to Hangzhou for West Lake and time in the city before continuing to Huangshan. Reverse the order if it works better with your departure flight.
Hangzhou to Huangshan
Take the train to Huangshan and transfer to your hotel. Choose where to stay according to the next day's plans: the mountain, Tunxi or the villages.
Yellow Mountain
Spend time on Yellow Mountain, using cable cars to shorten the climb if you prefer. Stay at the top or return to a hotel below, depending on the walk you choose.
Huizhou and departure
