This plan starts after you have already arrived in Hangzhou. It protects the journey sequence, luggage decisions, mountain night, walking pace, and final connection instead of repeating basic airport and railway instructions.

Four days is compact; five days is the better first-time plan
Use four days only when the Hangzhou stay can remain focused, the group is comfortable with early starts, and the final connection can tolerate a mountain descent on the same day. Five days adds a second Hangzhou day and gives the regional sequence a more realistic pace.

One focused Hangzhou day, one transfer-and-Hongcun day, one mountain ascent day, and one descent-and-departure day.
Recommended version
Two Hangzhou days, then the same Huangshan North–Hongcun–Tangkou–mountaintop sequence with less pressure on the first half of the trip.
Route logic
Keep the order simple
A practical sequence is Hangzhou → Huangshan North Railway Station → Hongcun → Tangkou → Huangshan mountaintop. It avoids treating Huangshan North as if it were at the scenic-area entrance and places the village before the mountain night.
When mountain weather, hotel availability, or transport timing makes this sequence impractical, the Hongcun and mountain sections can be adjusted.

Protect the sequence, not the number of attractions
A focused Hangzhou day
Choose one coherent West Lake area and one additional interest, such as tea culture, a museum, or a neighbourhood. Do not attempt to cover the whole lake before an early departure the next day.
Hangzhou to Huangshan North, Hongcun, and Tangkou
Take the confirmed train from the station shown on the ticket. Decide where the large luggage will remain, visit Hongcun at a realistic pace, then continue to Tangkou for the night and prepare a small mountain bag.
Tangkou to the mountaintop
Enter through the confirmed gate and use the cableway and walking route that fit the weather, open sections, hotel location, and group ability. Stay overnight on the mountain.
Sunrise option, descent, and onward connection
Use a designated viewpoint near the hotel if conditions and ability allow, then descend with a substantial buffer for the road transfer and the confirmed train or flight. If the only connection is early or inflexible, this four-day structure is not suitable.
Five-day recommended version
Add time where it improves the journey most
West Lake at a measured pace
Plan one compact lakeside area, a cultural stop, and an evening that does not depend on crossing the city repeatedly.
Tea, culture, or a weather-adjustment day
Use the second day for Longjing, a museum, another selected part of Hangzhou, or the outdoor plan displaced by rain. Keep the evening practical for the next morning's railway departure.
Huangshan North, Hongcun, and Tangkou
Follow the same regional sequence as the compact plan, but without sacrificing the second Hangzhou day. Store the large luggage at the point that matches the final exit route.
Mountain ascent and mountaintop stay
Choose the current open route around the group's walking ability, cableway plan, and hotel rather than forcing every named peak into the day.
Sunrise option, descent, and departure
Descend early enough for the actual transfer to Huangshan North Railway Station or Huangshan Tunxi International Airport. A late, flexible connection is safer than a tight booking built around ideal conditions.
Large luggage
Choose the storage point from the final exit route
Do not take a full-size suitcase to the mountaintop. Carry a small overnight bag with clothing layers, rain protection, medication, passport, power bank, and the essentials needed before descent.
Useful when returning to the station
Store the main case here when the final journey returns through Huangshan North and the operating conditions fit the plan.
Useful for a south-gate return
A confirmed hotel or storage point can be more practical when the route descends to Tangkou before the final transfer.
Keep valuables with you
Carry passports, medication, cash, computers, cameras, and other valuables rather than leaving them in stored luggage.

Choose location before views
- Match the hotel to the arrival cableway and next day's descent direction
- Confirm the room type, meals, current operating status, and temperature arrangements
- Allow for substantial steps between hotels and viewpoints
- Treat sunset, sunrise, and the Sea of Clouds as possibilities, not promises
If West Sea Grand Canyon is closed
Use an alternative open summit route
The canyon is optional, not the foundation of this itinerary. Replace it with a current open combination around places such as Beihai, Beginning-to-Believe Peak, Paiyun Pavilion, or Bright Summit, selected to fit the hotel and cableway direction. Follow the official notice and hotel or guide advice on the day.

Book from the real descent, not the map distance
The final day includes the mountain route, possible queues, the cableway or walking descent, the scenic-area internal transfer, the road journey, and station or airport procedures. Weather and operating controls can lengthen any part of that chain.
- For high-speed rail, select a departure that leaves a robust buffer after reaching Huangshan North—not merely after the planned cableway time.
- For a flight, include the separate road transfer to Huangshan Tunxi International Airport and the airline's required check-in time.
- Do not use a non-changeable early connection as the only acceptable outcome after a mountaintop night.
- If the onward departure is fixed and early, add a lower-altitude night before it; the journey may then require an additional calendar day.
